Magazine Calls Certified Organic Porter
“Incredible...Best Organic Beer We’ve Sampled”

The March/April 2007 issue of one of the beer industry’s most prestigious publications, Brew Magazine, awarded Fortuna’s Eel River Brewing Company’s Certified Organic Porter the highest rating in that issue and one of the highest ratings in their history.

Here is what Brew Magazine had to say about Eel River Brewing Company’s Certified Organic Porter:

“The country’s first certified organic brewery offers up this incredible porter…A delightful example of the style, this porter is easily the best organic beer we’ve sampled.”

“Brew Magazine doesn’t let you know in advance that they are sampling your beer,” explains Eel River Brewery co-owner Ted Vivatson. “So when we opened this issue we were blown away not only by the fact that they had rated our Certified Organic Porter, but they gave it one of the highest ratings I’ve ever seen in this magazine!”

“Because Brew Magazine is known for their tough judging, this means a lot to us,” explained co-owner Margaret Vivatson. “We are honored that they said “best organic beer” they’ve tasted, not just organic porter. “

Brew Magazine had this to say about porters:

“These dark brews have always held a special place in the annals of beer history. They gained popularity in the late 1700s—the same time England was developing its national transport system. Porters became the first beer to win national attention and spread easily throughout England. (Pale ales also materialized in these early states of the industrial revolution, but the style was far from perfect until well into the 1800s.) The result was the birth and growth of this rich, chocolaty brew when few other beers were available to the masses.
