Founded in 1994 by Ted Vivaston in Fortuna, CA, Eel River Brewing was born from a bold vision: to craft beer that honors the land—untouched by pesticides or additives. Inspired by the rugged, redwood-draped landscapes of Northern California, Ted’s passion led to the creation of Amber Ale in 1998—the nation’s first 100% organic, “naked” beer.

A single desire for purity sparked a revolution in sustainable craft brewing. By 1999, our USDA-certified IPA Porter cemented our role as pioneers, proving that ethical practices and exceptional flavor can coexist.

Today, his son Matt is leading the path to the future, as Ted steps into a mentoring role, sharing decades of hard-won experience. Every brew is a tribute to our pristine land—a promise of pure, unadulterated taste and a sustainable future for generations to come.
